630 (1.4542) Stainless Steel

630 stainless steel is one of the newest stainless steel grade found in 1960s. This grade is written as 1.4542 or X5CrNiCuNb16-4 or 17-4 PH according to EN norm and it is written as UNS S17400 according to UNS norm. 1.4542 material is a very special grade because of its mechanical properties. The yield and tensile strenght are usually both higher then 1000MPA and if we compare this grade with the most famous grade 304, then we can understand how strong this grade is. In 304 grade, the yield is about 300MPA but in 630 (1.4542) the yield is over 1000MPA. If we again compare 1.4542 stainless steel grade with 304, the corrosion resistance level is nearly the same. So 1.4542 material has a good corrosion resistance and also has very high mechanical properties. 17-4 PH stainless steel is a precipitation hardening stainless steel and because of precipitation hardening, it is also called PH 17-4 or 17-4 PH. 630 stainless steel materials come to Bircelik usually in three different heat threatment conditions. The most common one is H1025 heat threated version. H1025 heat threat version usually has a tensile strenght above 1100 MPA and hardness above 37 HRC. The other heat threatment conditions are Condition A, which is not precipitated yet and H1150, which is softened and has a lower hardness and lower mechanical value. 17-4 ph stainless steel usually used in pomp shafts, marine aplications, petro chemical industries a lot.
