304 (1.4301) Stainless Steel

304 (1.4301) is the most widely used stainless steel grade in the world. This grade is used at least one third of all stainless steel products. This grade is written as 1.4301 or X5CrNi18-10 according to EN norm and it is written as UNS S30400 according to UNS norm. This grade can be also shown as 18-8 or 18-10 and these numbers indicate the chromium and nickel percentages of the material. This grade can be weld easily and machinability of this grade is good. For better corrosion resistance, 316 or 316L could be a good alternative and for better machinability 303 grade can be a good alternative.

 

304 grade stainless steel has a really good price/performance and because of its good price/performance, 304 grade used very widely in many different applications. It is a very widely used stainless steel grade and it is really easy to find this stainless steel grade in any shape and in any size. In daily life, most of the stainless steel products around us are produced with 304 (1.4301) stainless steel grade.
